Our History

Founded in 2023 by Partners Gricel Muñoz and Bret Waskiewicz, Mardel Contracting was built on a shared vision to deliver construction services with integrity, technical excellence, and a commitment to building stronger communities.

The name Mardel honors Mar del Plata, Argentina, where Gricel was born. After immigrating to the United States in 1999 and overcoming significant early-life adversity, she built a successful career as a construction leader, educator, and community partner. Today, she leads Mardel’s preconstruction, operations, and business development while serving as an Adjunct Professor at Montgomery College and advocating for workforce development, minority-owned businesses, and youth through her nonprofit board leadership.

Bret brings more than 20 years of construction management experience, leading complex commercial and public-sector projects valued from $4 million to over $65 million. His experience includes managing the administration of more than $2 billion in State of Maryland K–12 construction funding, providing the technical expertise and leadership that help drive Mardel’s success.

Having worked together for years in construction management, consulting, and public-sector project delivery, Gricel and Bret combined their experience to create a company focused on quality, collaboration, and client trust.

Today, Mardel Contracting provides construction management and general contracting services throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, and Southern Pennsylvania. As a certified Maryland Department of Transportation Minority Business Enterprise (MBE No. 26-122), we proudly deliver projects for public and private clients with the expertise, accountability, and personalized service that build lasting partnerships.
